About us
The New Zealand Good Samaritan Heart Mission to Samoa Trust is a charitable trust, formed to assist the relief of heart disease in the poor and needy people of Samoa.
The primary aim of the Trust, the vision of cardiac surgeon Dr Parma Nand, is to assist the continuation of the two open heart surgery missions in Samoa by volunteer health professionals from New Zealand.
In addition we wish to find resources to help with both primary and secondary prevention of rheumatic heart disease and coronary heart disease in the Samoan communities in both Samoa and New Zealand.
The Trust is a partnership of concerned leaders of the Samoan community and doctors, nurses and allied health professionals from New Zealand who care deeply for the people of Samoa who have very limited access to treatment of heart disease.
Working together with the clinicians in Samoa and with the help of our volunteers, the church, corporate organisations, sponsors and donors, we believe that we can help save the lives of young people in Samoa.
We will achieve this by supporting the continued provision open heart operations in Samoa for patients with advanced heart disease who do not have access to open heart surgery and by lifting the heart health of Samoan communities by supporting education and screening for the prevention of heart disease.
